Location Recce - Protest

Image
For the protest scene, we wanted to use somewhere rural to give the impression of a street protest as this is where they would be seen in real life. In order to create the idea of a busy protest, we need a large group of actors and to do so we will gather willing actors from school. Due to this, we made the collective decision to film the protest scene somewhere within the school, examples of these areas are below, as we realised that it would be a lot easier to organise as our actors would most likely always be here to film, making the process a lot faster and more efficient. We can also gain access to these actors through the drama department as well to ensure the acting looks professional.  This first area of the school is completely brick so gives the impression of a rural area or street perfectly. However, the natural lighting is quite dark so would require us to use a lot more artificial lighting and post production editing. Additionally, the space is quite small and...

Location Recce - Bedroom

Image
Within the bedroom scene, we plan to include an over the shoulder shot of the female protagonist doing her makeup and looking at herself in the mirror.  An initial idea was to use public toilets in order to make the room look dirty and dark however when location recce-ing this idea, we found that using these areas did not give the impression of a bedroom at all. This was due to the camera angle still showing a large amount of the area behind and obviously showing the public toilet.  In the end, we decided that this would be too difficult to film as in school, you can see the toilets behind and it does not look like a bedroom. We decided to instead do an extreme close up shot on the side of the protagonists mouth showing her applying lipstick which looked effective still as it was head on and more dramatic as her lips and the bright lipstick filled the screen. The red also follows our colour palette.  We used a bedroom for an additional scene of th...

Risk Assessment

Risk Threat Severity Actions to take Vehicles whilst filming very close to a busy road in the town center. Crew or cast member falling into the road and being hit by a vehicle. High We will ensure to maintain a 1metre gap between the road and the shot at all times. Being distracted during the scenes inside the car. Other road users misinterpreting the car which could lead to collision and angry drivers. Medium One member of the crew will be on constant lookout for cars and hazard warning lights will be used when other car users arrive. We will also film on a quiet road. Falling over during the filming in dark scenes. Tripping over during the night time shoots. This could lead to injuries such as cuts and potentially a broken bone. Low If the pavement isn’t clear, use the torch on your phone to make it clearer and avoid injury. Before shooting, we created a risk assessment which encountered and dealt with the major health and safety conce...

Louis Theroux - Trafficking

In order to further my understanding of the theme of prostitutes, our group watched a Louis Theroux BBC documentary on Trafficking. Although it was filmed in America, many of the ideas and reactions to 'pimps' we agreed would work well with our idea. Interesting Quotes to consider in our own piece: "Sometimes they can go and come as they please, depending on the provider." "That's my daddy he takes good care of me." "Do you give him all the money you make?" "100%" "If they say no, it's no." "Is he physical?" "He can be if you're out of line, if you disobey him." "Veteran girls out here will spot what they call a renegade which is a girl that's just out here on her own, and either physically attack her or try to coerce her into you know, coming into their family." "I couldn't wait to put that money in his hand because I knew I was going to get praised." ...

Trailer Inspiration

Image
Winter's Bone (2010): This film inspired our trailer as it follows the story of a young girl and her siblings, who try to find their neglectful parent. The aspect and idea of a neglectful parent inspired us to use this within our own trailer to further establish the reasons for our main female protagonist turning to prostitution and protesting. In Headlights: This trailer is another coursework piece from a few years ago however follows the same sort of idea that we plan to do. We chose some shots that we thought were interesting and show the theme of prostitution without being explicit, for example a man grabbing her hand and pulling her away with him, as this shows vulnerability of the protagonist. This trailer inspired parts of our idea as well as they included an ill father figure that the young girl had to look after, we adapted this in our own piece but have a neglectful father character that the female protagonist wants to get away from. Three Girls: The story o...
