Poster Designs

When researching poster designs and ideas, we found that many social realism films, such as 'London to Brighton' use many shots from the film itself in the posters. We used this idea in most of out poster designs, however using images from the film and edited them in different ways using Microsoft Word.

Minimalist Poster Design No. 1

For this poster, we edited the image to make it a lot more minimalistic and focus on only a few simple, quite dark colours, fitting with our colour palette. We also conformed to the usual conventions seen on film posters by adding quotes from well-known, respected news outlets to add authority. As well as this, we included the name in bold in the completely centre, in a darker colour than the other text surrounding it, making it stand out a lot more. We decided to use an image of the female protagonist so that she can be recognised as the main character through the poster before the audience even see the trailer, as well as having her in a fetal-like position, trying to cover herself up, emphasising the vulnerability and removal of innocence that she experiences in the film.

Minimalist Poster Design No. 2

For this second minimalistic poster, we decided to go even more basic and simply follow the brighter orange hue of the colour palette on a harsh black background. We simply used the title and a date below, following common conventions of minimalist posters and keeping the audience questioning the story completely. The use of an image of a cupcake relates the poster to the film as we include a shot of the protagonist with a birthday cupcake however it also has a subtlety of showing the protagonists innocence and her age, which is underage and illegal for the situation she gets into.

Main Poster Design No. 1

This theatrical poster design looks a lot more professional and the colours are all very simplistic. The image used is from the trailer itself giving direct connections between the two. The light background and the protagonist wearing a black top allows for the bright orange writing to fit nicely and work well over the plain background. Again, we have followed forms and conventions of real media products by including reviews, rewards and detailed credits at the bottom of the landscape image.

Main Poster Design No. 2

This trailer follows conventions of many real media posters by the use of images of main characters and the well-known reviews using quotes and stars. We were inspired by the 'London to Brighton' poster for this specific one and used many images from the full film on it.
